Honor and Duty: D-Day will be the next game in the Honor and Duty franchise and will be geared mainly for VR. The game will be playable without VR but movement and visuals will be focused around VR players.
We purchased a great set of assets that were just perfect for a WW2 VR shooter. We will now have a consistent art style for everything from players, buildings, props, and vehicles. The art style is cartoony and early tests indicate we’ll have a great rendering budget to work with.
One decision we’ve made based on the response to the recent VR update is to go with an online only game with a SP expansion pack. The online game will have bots in case there are no online players and will be replaced as human players join. The target release date is July 24th with the SP expansion coming sometime in December. The SP expansion will feature a more traditional campaign instead of a just a wave based shooter. We’ve released some videos showing the art style and these use the current HAD:AE code base so they’re not representative of the actual gameplay. We have some special SP game modes planned that will allow local gameplay where one player uses the PSVR and the other uses the social screen. Co-op is also planned but will be added last so it’s possible that may have to come in an update to the SP expansion.
For the online MP, we’ll focus on a variety of game modes and maps including a few new modes we’ve thought up ourselves. Vehicles are also planned but will not be implemented in a way that unbalances gameplay. Over the coming months, we’ll continue to improve HAD:AE and use it’s code base as the starting point for D-Day. That means AE will get a number of improvements and even some new maps.
Thanks again for all the support and great feedback! As always, let us know what your thoughts on the direction as well as things you’d like to see.
